Objective

To work on interesting projects and flex my background in design, computer science, and mathematics.

Experience

MICROSOFT CORPORATION, Redmond WA
Software Developer for Expression Design (April 2005 - Present)

  • Converted a million-line legacy C++ application to run in C# and WPF while meeting a tight shipping schedule and ramping up a new team. Achieved the major business goal for the V1 release by establishing an architecture that enabled the design team to dramatically revamp the look & feel of the application in parallel with new feature development. The success of this project greenlighted several major applications within the company to adopt a similar architecture.
  • Participated in campus recruiting. Interviewed new dev team hires.
  • Mentored and collaborated with developers, program managers, and testers. Was the first developer on the team, helped new hires come up to speed on the codebase and design their features.
  • Presented to division executives and various teams in the company. One project was presented to senior VPs. Another was identified as being strategically valuable to Microsoft, and was presented at a senior executive retreat. Featured in a Channel9 video showcasing the product for the Microsoft community.
  • Developed and shipped features in all major areas of the product: bitmap & vector editing, UI, shell, core infrastructure, etc.

MICROSOFT CORPORATION, Redmond WA
Software Developer for Expression Blend (November 2002 - April 2005)

  • Developed and maintained features for a next-gen V1 application.
  • Researched and prototyped new graphics algorithms and editing features.
  • Filed multiple graphics and animation-related patents.
  • Collaborated with the QA team to implement a product-wide unit-testing framework.
  • Gained extensive experience with XAML and all aspects of the WPF platform. Developed an in-depth background in scalable, resolution-independent vector UI.

VERCOM SYSTEMS, INC., College Station TX
Web Developer for "KD Project" (February - July 2002)

  • Created corporate image package for new venture to be launched Q4 2002. This image was designed to appeal to hand-picked groups of potential investors. Package included website, presentations, logos, business cards, etc.

INSURANCE INFORMATION EXCHANGE, College Station TX
Web & Intranet Developer (May 1997 - July 1998)

  • Implemented new design for re-deployment of iix.com. The newly redesigned site provided informational resources to insurance industry professionals and was the centerpiece of the company's re-branding as an ISP and web-based information clearinghouse.
  • Designed special-edition product CD label for tradeshow promotion, requiring the development of a custom rendering program to meet the limited production budget.
  • Designed, implemented, and maintained corporate intranet, involving coordination of departmental intranet mini-sites and collaboration with department representatives to develop content.

OI CORPORATION, College Station TX
Web Developer (Fall 1996)

  • Hand-coded initial website offering. The site boosted the company's visibility in its industry and provided information and literature for its analytical instruments product line.
  • Developed internal web-based bulletin board prototype to reduce communication costs in coordinating between HQ and sales reps abroad.
